Spring Term: Terrible Tudors
The class were amazing on our Layer Marney trip. They were so respectful and listened so well. We learnt so much about Tudor life. We made markings from brass rubbings, tried on Tudor armoury and visited Tudor tombs of knights and lords. The class even had a go at archery. Enjoy the video!

It's Rocket Science - Class Trip December 2022
We had a fantastic time on our class trip at 'It's Rocket Science'. The class used problem-solving skills and worked as a team to complete a range of puzzles, riddles and tasks. We completed a craft activities about our solar system and learnt lots of fun space facts. The centre were very impressed with their behaviour throughout the day and how they thought 'outside the box'. Well done Year 5, we were very proud of you all!

Virtual Tour at the Museum of Classical Archeology October 2022
We had a fantastic virtual tour on Tuesday 14th October. The class were showed a variety of interesting artefacts and Ancient Greek statues. The museum guided was so impressed, he emailed and said, "Thank you for booking with the museum, it was great to talk to so many enthusiastic kids! They had some great questions and already had some impressive knowledge."
We were very proud of the class. They fully engaged with the tour and their love for history shone!
PSHE in Year 5
In September 2020 it was made compulsory for all primary age children to be taught Relationships and Health Education. These subjects are designed to equip your child with knowledge to make informed decisions about their well-being, health and relationships as well as preparing them for a successful adult life.
Each year the children will cover 3 common themes:
- Relationships
- Living in the wider world
- Health and well-being
The grid below shows the topics we will be covering in Year 5.

Reading
Below are the Year 5 National Curriculum reading objectives. If you notice your child has used one of these whilst reading to you, you can use the code ( found down the side) and write it in their books. This is very helpful to us and it also supports you when hearing your child read.
Our class target is for every child to read for at least 80 minutes a week. Please record their minutes in their reading diaries.
As part of the reading curriculum we shall be using VIPERS to encourage comprehension through questions:
These stand for 'Vocabulary, Infer, Predict, Explain, Retrieve, Summarise'.

Maths
Reminder - your child can use their Times Table Rockstar logins to practise key times table skills at home.
