Design and Technology
Meet our D&T co-ordinator, Mrs Baker.
Design and Technology at Alresford Primary School
At Alresford, we want every learner to become a confident and competent user of design and technology. Our design and technology curriculum allows our children to use their creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve problems. The purpose of our teaching is to develop the children’s subject knowledge and combine learning from other subjects, such as maths, science, engineering, computing and art. Children will be given opportunities to learn how to take risks and become innovative and critically reflective. They will develop an understanding of the impact of design and technology in daily life and the wider world.
Our Aims
All children will be given the opportunity:
- To use creativity and practical skills to complete tasks confidently in the technological world.
- To gain knowledge and understanding of and develop skills in designing and making prototypes of products.
- To be able to evaluate and test their own and others’ work and strive to progress as designers.
- To understand nutrition and develop skills in cooking.

DT in Action at Alresford
The children in Year 1 have been working hard to design and make puppets. They did a fantastic job and were so proud of their finished product!
Year 1 have also explored sliders and levers. They designed and made their own slider or lever for a picture book!
Year 4 have been learning about electrical systems in D&T, focusing on switches and circuits. They used all their knowledge and understanding to design and make a light up Christmas card!
Year 5 have been learning about food and nutrition. They worked hard to design and make their own scones - they look delicious!
