WELCOME TO PENGUIN CLASS PAGE
Teachers: Miss Panting & Mrs Mott
Learning Support Assistant: Mrs Smith
At this stage in Year 2 we teach both spelling and phonics lessons based on our pupils' needs. Those who attend spelling lessons will follow the No Nonsense Spelling scheme and those who are in our phonics group follow Letters and Sounds. Below are a variety of different ways to practice and learn spellings at home. We will also be using these in school to support the children's progress.
Reading in Year 2:
In KS1 at Alresford, children read each week with an adult on a 1:1 basis. Our early reading books are split into colour bands based on phonics phases. When a child has progressed through the colour bands they become a free reader and can choose books from the library. Below are some tips to support your child's reading. It is so important that children read regularly at home as well as at school. We really do appreciate your support in this matter.
Our topic for the Summer term is 'Our Wonderful World'. Please see our curriculum letter below to get more of an idea of what we will be doing.
Spelling and Phonics in Year 2.
Below you will find details of spelling patterns which we will be teaching your child this year. Because of COVID 19, the children did not complete their phonics screening so all children from Year 2 will complete the screen in Autumn 2020.
The two documents below contain the Year 2 common exceptions words which should be known by the end of the year; the second is the English Appendix, containing all spelling patterns and rules which are taught across the school.
