Numbots Game

We've celebrated the King's Coronation today by learning lots of new facts and making crowns.

We had a great wellbeing Wednesday

in Penguins.

Take a look at the fun activities we did!

Here is a little sneak peak into our classroom so far this term. We have been practicing our sculpting skills using playdough, ready to make polar animals from clay. We have had Wellbeing day, made vehicles, learnt about India in Geography, made weather reports, printed our own fabric designs, compos our own call and response music, and been very active in P.E! Haven't we been busy?!

Please take a look at the Meet and Greet Powerpoint below to find out about our Year 2 Penguin Class.

Our Spring Term learning is all about 'Our Wonderful World'. Please find the curriculum letter and map below.

Our Autumn Term learning is al about 'Amazing Adventures'. Please find a copy of the curriculum letter and curriculum map below for full details of subject coverage.

Reading in Year 2:

In KS1 at Alresford, children read each week with an adult on a 1:1 basis. Our Year 2 reading books are banded and when a child has progressed through them, they become a free reader and can choose books from the library. We also follow VIPERS.

What is VIPERS I hear you ask...

VIPERS is an acronym to aid the recall of the 6 reading domains as part of the UK’s reading curriculum.  They are the key areas which we feel children need to know and understand in order to improve their comprehension of texts.

VIPERS stands for;

  • Vocabulary
  • Inference
  • Prediction
  • Explanation
  • Retrieval
  • Sequence or Summarise

It is so important that children read regularly at home as well as at school. We really do appreciate your support in this matter. Below are some tips to support your child's reading at home.

Spelling and Phonics in Year 2.

Below you will find details of spelling patterns which we will be teaching your child this year.

The two documents below contain the Year 2 common exceptions words which should be known by the end of the year; the second is the English Appendix, containing all spelling patterns and rules which are taught across the school.
