What do the governors do?
The governors have various responsibilities and duties. They are responsible for the effective management of the school, for the school budget, and for Health & Safety. They help to set, and monitor, the school philosophy and policies. How do they do that? The governors meet each term as a group. Many of the responsibilities of the governing body are delegated to smaller committees that meet as necessary. Governors are on one, or more, of these committees.
Governors DO NOT make day to day decisions about the running of the school - this is the role of the Head Teacher, supported by his staff.
Who’s on the Governing Body?
The Governing Body is made up of representatives of the Staff, Parents and the Community as well as having some members appointed by the Local Authority (L.A.). They are all volunteers who give up their time freely to ensure the school is managed effectively and to the benefit of the children.
